Acupuncture Services in Brighton

People come to my clinic with a wide range of health concerns, but the areas below are some of the ones I see most often.

My approach is always individual. Rather than treating a diagnosis alone, I look at the whole picture- including your symptoms, sleep, digestion, energy, emotional wellbeing and physical tension- and tailor each treatment accordingly.

If you don’t see your particular concern below, you’re very welcome to get in touch and ask whether I may be able to help.

Anxiety can affect both the mind and the body. You might experience racing thoughts or constant worry, but it can also show up as chest tightness, palpitations, digestive changes, tense shoulders or jaw, poor sleep, or simply feeling constantly on edge. I use a combination of acupuncture and Shiatsu massage, and where appropriate I add Chinese herbal medicine, with each treatment tailored to how anxiety is affecting you personally.

I have a particular interest in sleep problems, and my Master’s research focused on insomnia. People come to me with difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking, early waking, light or restless sleep, or simply never feeling properly refreshed. Sleep problems are often connected with anxiety, stress, hormonal changes, digestion or other aspects of health, so treatment looks at your sleep within the wider picture rather than in isolation.

Low Mood & Emotional Wellbeing

Periods of low mood can affect your energy, motivation, sleep, appetite and how connected you feel to everyday life. When someone comes to me experiencing low mood alongside stress, anxiety, poor sleep or physical symptoms, I look at all of these together rather than treating each symptom separately. Acupuncture can also be used alongside conventional healthcare and prescribed medication. You should never stop or change medication without discussing it with the clinician who prescribed it.

Digestive Health

Digestive symptoms can be closely affected by stress, eating patterns, lifestyle and other aspects of health. I commonly see people experiencing symptoms such as bloating, abdominal discomfort, irregular bowel movements and digestive changes that seem to worsen during periods of stress. Chinese medicine looks at digestion as part of the whole picture, so treatment is tailored according to your individual combination of symptoms.

Pain & Muscular Tension

I also see people with back and neck pain, shoulder tension, headaches and other musculoskeletal complaints. My own introduction to acupuncture was actually through treatment for severe sciatica more than 20 years ago- an experience which ultimately led me to change career and study Chinese medicine. Treatment may combine acupuncture with Shiatsu, with the approach adapted according to the location and nature of your symptoms.

Stress & Tension

Sometimes there isn’t one particular diagnosis — you simply feel that your body has been under too much pressure for too long. Stress can show up as muscular tension, headaches, poor sleep, digestive changes, irritability, fatigue or a feeling that you never properly switch off. Acupuncture and Shiatsu can provide an opportunity for the body to settle while I also look at the wider pattern contributing to how you’re feeling.

Not Sure Where You Fit?

You don’t need to work out for yourself whether your symptoms fall neatly into one of these categories.
